Amanda Rayfield and her too-cute-for-words, squishy-faced cat named Mimis in her gorgeous shop Hello Heartbreak, upstairs of the Brunswick Street Gallery in Fitzroy. Shot for issue 73 of frankie magazine.
Singer-songwriter Mojo Juju and burlesque performer-costumier Frankie Valentine. These two women make a strikingly creative and accomplished duo. This photo was taken in their suburban home in Melbourne’s north, as the couple approached their seven-year anniversary. The photos form a series looking into Mojo Juju and Frankie’s home life, a behind-the-scenes view of these two incredible performers that we rarely get to see. They were taken to accompany an interview by Madeleine Dore for the website Extraordinary Routines, which explored their daily routines as individuals, and as a couple.
I first met Caitlin when I was studying photography, we met via one of the 'Melbourne creatives' facebook groups and she modelled for my very first fashion shoot when I was in either first or second year uni. We got along so well, and our friendship quickly grew through a lot of catch ups disguised as 'business meetings' to talk about photo collaborations. We've since worked on a lot of shoots together, with her as the stylist and I was thrilled when she recently asked me to photograph her again, here are the results. Zoë Foster Blake's career spans working as a journalist, columnist, and beauty editor, as well as being the author of four fiction titles and two non-fiction books, and the founder of the skin care line Go-To. Additionally, her novel The Wrong Girl has just been adapted into a TV series for Channel 10. AND she's the mother to toddler Sonny (I got to meet him too, so cute!) and wife to Hamish Blake... if you want to know how she manages to juggle it all, have a read of her daily routine at Extraordinary Routines.
"I think it is good to have goals and so on, and I guess there are those that say if you want something you have to go out and get it, but I really believe that most of the things that have happened in my life have been luck, timing, or a total “get on with life” moment. Do your best work, put it out there, and then move on." - Zoë Foster Blake for Extraordinary Routines.
Sometimes I can't believe I get to meet the inspiring people I do and see the amazing homes I get to step foot in because of my job. My time with Georgia Frances King in her street-art-collecting parents' home was right up there with the best experiences so far. Georgia was previously the editor of Kinfolk magazine, assistant editor of Frankie magazine (my two favourites!), and is now the new Deputy Ideas Editor (what a cool title) at Quartz in NYC. Have a read/look at her interview feature over at Extraordinary Routines.
I love what Georgia had to say about the curse of being busy. "When people are asked how they are, their answer so often is 'I’m so busy.' So I banned those words from my vocabulary and decided that I wasn’t going to define myself by how busy I am." - Georgia Frances King for Extraordinary Routines.
