Sharehomes

A selection of images from my personal project and self-published book, Sharehomes, photographed from 2015-2016.

Sharehomes is an exploration into the households of Melburnians who have decided to live together. From sisters to strangers, these are a wide range of houses with fascinating collaborations of taste, lifestyles, possessions and values.

Sharehomes is about challenging the stereotypes of share housing. People often think of share houses as a convenient, temporary solution while a young person transitions from their family home to their eventual adult residence. They’re thought to be dirty, cheap, neglected and loud. They’re not expected to have a sense of ‘home’ or to be personally stamped with ownership.

Now that people continue to live communally beyond their student years, many strive to make share houses their home – whether it be through aesthetics, shared dinners or keeping good company.
